80th Celebration

Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School Celebrated their 80th anniversary on May 17 with a special worship service and catered lunch.  There were around 500 in attendance at the worship service and 350 at the lunch.

The worship service had former pastors, principles, teachers, and staff recognized, along with a special Service of Song with all choirs and bands participating.  The congregation also participated in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

After the service the congregation was invited to walk down the hallways of the school, which was named ‘Memory Lane’ for this special weekend.  Many hours of work were put into a display to commemorate every decade that Holy Cross has been a part of this community.

The day continued with a catered lunch and program in the Holy Cross School Gym with many recognitions, including our oldest living principle, Mr. Bob Schiemann, who will be 94 this year!  Also, messages from past pastors and many mission outreach programs were recognized.

Holy Cross is growing again, with its 13th building expansion to be able to serve and minister better to our community with the addition of a New Preschool and classrooms that are scheduled to open this year!  Praise God for His continued blessings on this congregation and school as we plan to be here for another 80 years!

About Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School - Founded in 1946, through a vision of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church to expand to the Northeast side of Fort Wayne as the “North Side Lutheran Mission”. They purchased 10 acres of land at the junction of North Anthony Blvd. and Crescent Ave. The land was then deeded to Holy Cross. We currently have around 475 students from preschool through 8th grade, with our church membership around 1,400. (Timeline of historical events)
