Athletics

Holy Cross offers athletic opportunities of all kinds to it’s students throughout the year. We participate in the Lutheran School Athletic Association (LSAA) with thirteen other Lutheran schools in the Fort Wayne area. During each season, along with playing our League teams, we will schedule games or matches against local Catholic or public schools. You can learn more details about the sports we offer by clicking on the following links.

Basketball

The basketball program is open to all boys and girls in the 5th-8th grades. Depending on numbers we could have two teams at each level, Junior Varsity is 5th & 6th grades and the Varsity level is the 7th & 8th grades. The season officially runs from mid-October through the end of January. Depending on the success of the season and tournaments, Varsity teams might extend their season into February or March for the ILSAA State Tournament or the LBAA National Tournament in Valparaiso, IN.

In recent years, both the girls and boys teams have played well enough to get to the National Tournament. In 2015, the girls team played in the Championship Semifinal and eventually finished in 4th place. The boys team have made it into the Championship side of the bracket the past two seasons. Both teams have placed well in the local and state tournaments.

Cheerleading

Our cheerleading program participates during the football season (August-October) and basketball season (November-January). Athletes are able to participate in one or both seasons if they would like. Due to the difficulty of stunts, students in 6th-8th grades are able to try out for the team.

Cross Country

The cross country program is run by another Lutheran school, but they allow 5th-8th grade students from other schools be a part of the team. The cross country season runs from August-October with approximately one meet a week in September and October. If you would like more information on the cross country program, please contact the Athletic Director who will put you in contact with the correct person.

Football

Our football program is very unique. Holy Cross is the host of the program, but students from the other area Lutheran schools are able to play on the team. The opportunity to play football is open to all students in 6th-8th grades. The football season begins with conditioning in early August and is finished in October. In the past, we had a great deal of success in the CYO League. In 2015, we joined the FWCS-Middle School Athletic Conference, which is made up of Fort Wayne Community Schools. We are looking forward to improving upon our 2-3 conference record next season.

Soccer

The soccer program is a two-season program. In the fall, August-October, the boys play their season. In the spring, March-May, the girls play their season. Both programs are open to all students in 5th-8th grades. Some seasons, depending on numbers, the opportunity to play has been offered to 4th graders. The past two years, the varsity boys team has finished tied for first in the conference. The varsity girls team has finished in the middle of the conference the past two years. They are looking at improving that finish with many returning players.
